Samaritans was founded by Reverend Chad Varah, in 1953 in the United Kingdom. It was then founded in Singapore on 29 July 1969. It has moved to many locations and finally settled at Cantonment Close in June 2001.

The first thing that caught our attention was going to the website and found that they have an interesting layout and nice web interface. Also to find out more about their services and what we can do to help them. As many of you might not know, they cater to people who are feeling emotional, depressed or discouraged and finds the only way out is to commit suicide. This organisation is lending their listening ears to let them have the opportunity to let out their feelings and at the same time give advice when necessary.

They encourage volunteers to help those who needed their  listening ears and gain their courage to live on their lives no matter what race or religion you are. It is to believe yourself that you can overcome any obstacles  if you put your heart and soul into it. God would never challenge those who could not overcome their problems.

I think that such organisation like this needs our help the most. It is by reaching to our community that we can understand them and learn that we are all the same. To avoid from racial and religion conflicts, first we have to know that we are not more than just a human race.

My group and I have proposed to do a media tool that can help to let more people know about the Samaritans and how they can seek help from them. I think it is a good opportunity for us to get to know them better by visiting them and let alone lending a helping hand.

I should say that through this project, I could gain some useful values such as social and psychology.  Be more open to people who have problems. I also think that theres more to life than just talking about boys. This project gives me the chance to talk about something you can do in life and be more humble in whatever you do.
